DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THEIR PROMOTIONS. I signed up for a promotional 3-month account in late September, so my account was supposed to be covered until December. I rarely if ever received the papers; when I called, they said it was because I lived in an apartment with a porch that was not accessible from the street, so I would need to pay extra to get the papers delivered to my door or pay extra to only get digital service. I declined and asked that my account not renew after the promotional period.
Flash forward to January, and I get a bill for a past due balance. I called and discovered that although I had paid for the three month promotion, a number of "special papers" were sent out in that time period, such as a Thanksgiving paper, a games paper, and Veteran's Day paper. These all apparently cost extra and reduced my promotion to only lasting less than 4 weeks. (These were of course all papers that I did not receive, as they were delivered to a random parking lot and not my home.) So now I own an additional amount for even more papers that I did not receive. Incredibly deceptive practices on the part of the Gazette. These were apparently mentioned in some kind of fine print but never announced or advertised in other ways. I really wanted to support this paper because local journalism is important, but unfortunately I won't ever give my money to this paper again.

They have the highly scummy business practice of reeling you in for a promotional price, providing no detail on the exact dates in the “welcome” email, and then charging full price without any warning when that time is up. I don’t care that you can “log in and check the dates”. Most people don’t have the time or patience to create an account and log in. That’s why better businesses actually inform you via mail or email when you’re about to get charged again. And then after you get suckered out of that full-price month they tell you no refunds. Stop being shady.

Cancelled my subscription mid term. Was completely fine with paying the rest of what I agreed to since I paid up front.

Months later they called me saying I missed a payment and am overdue on my account. And now they called 3-4x per day trying to get me to re subscribe.

Terrible company practices

I had to dispute this charge on my card because customer service wouldn’t refund me for papers I never received. They wouldn’t even cancel my service until, like 5 phone calls and finally threatening to report them to the BBB.

This is the worst type of company to deal with. I signed up for three months of digital delivery for $30 with a newspaper representative who was promoting the paper in the grocery store where I shop.

I am new to the city, so I was just trying to get a better feel for things, but knew I would stop the paper before there were any further charges.

With the rep, I carefully reviewed exactly what date I needed to call to avoid more charges. That date is still 9 days in the future but today I was charged another $28.

I called and their customer service told me, "Yes, that was the original agreement but we changed it after you signed up and so you have a new charge for a special edition magazine we just sent you. In the fine print, it says we have the right to do that, so you have no recourse."

I removed the charge at my bank, which they are handling as fraud...which also means I had to shut down my card and won't have a new one for about a week.

Trouble and frustration dealing with a very nasty bait and switch tactic. The sad thing is it undercuts all the good work their reporters and editors do and I am left with an extremely negative impression of the Gazette that will never go away. This one star review is my only other recourse, so...

Thanks for taking your time to read this,
John

We get the online paper and they have been delivering the Wednesday. Sunday and holiday paper at our house. We asked to stop the home delivery that was part of our subscription. They said ok, but that would be 5.00 more a month. ...You pay more for less? Give me a break.

They will scam you and they will gouge you. They will not do what they promise to do for you on the phone. The promoter at King Soopers is lying when he says "it is easy to cancel your subscription." IT IS NOT EASY. You are much better off getting your news somewhere else!!! Based on the terrible customer service, I am shocked they are still in business.

This is one of the worst companies I’ve dealt with. They are very rude, make it hard to cancel your subscription, and don’t always deliver the paper.
