Krista helped me find books right up my alley! They also had multiple seating areas (to relax and read) and displays.

Come to this bookstore if you want to support local.

Pros: Very close to i-25 making it very easy to get to. Nice selection of books. Very friendly and helpful staff. Very clean.

Cons: Prices a touch high. Nature books are a bit light. Dinosaur Books almost non existent. But this is normal book stores only carry what truly sells. So far the only place that has a good selection of these books is the Broadway book mall.

I'm my opinion, Bookies is one of the best bookstores anywhere. We've been going to Bookies since I was a kid, and I've always loved it. And now I get to bring my little family. I feel so happy every time I go.

When my son was 4, he was going through an octopus phase, and I asked, without much hope of anything, if they had an age appropriate book about octopuses. The woman replied that she would go look in their octopus section. She wasn't kidding. She was gone for 10 minutes (in the old days, many of their books were kept in the basement for want of room in the store), and came back with a *stack* of appropriate, adorable books.

A couple of weeks ago I went in for novels for my 8 year old, and left (because of suggestions by the women who work there) with another stack of books I'd never heard of, but that all have turned out to be great so far.

The women who work there know every book. They read everything. They have real and meaningful suggestions. They care about kids and teachers and all readers. They have books for all ages. Please go. ❤️

I had another review posted, but it was for the old location, so I am writing a new one. My stars have not changed, but my comments have. I visited the new location for the first time today, and my feelings are mixed. All the things I loved most about the old location are gone, but most of the things I didn't like remain. I am not going to go into details because that would make the review too long, and I'd really like to give the store more time to get settled before I form set opinions. One wonderful thing, though-- it is a much nicer, bigger space with a decor theme that is much warmer than the old location. And it still has a large children's selection. I look forward to seeing the store grow again.

I was in the store today and had a great experience! The staff was friendly and knowledgeable about all the books I had in my hands (I grabbed quite a few from the shelves). There was a great variety of novels that they carry in the store. And they host author readings! Needless to say I will be back.

Denver has much better indie bookstores in the area. I choose to support indie book stores that are warm and welcoming not only in store but online as well. Recent social media posts have made me uncomfortable. I’d rather support other local bookstores that want to support and uplift authors that are decent human beings and support more minority authors. I will be taking my business elsewhere.

You may claim you are showing kids what you have available but how many kids actually follow your social media? Have it displayed in the store for all I care but you of all people should know about inequities in publishing so why not uplift minority authors instead of a known bigot on social media? I will be telling everyone I know other bookstores to shop at instead!

If you need a unique book or toy or gift for a child, this is your store.

If you need a teacher's resource, an in-depth curriculum review, a guide to child development, or an old-style grade-level workbook, this is your store.

If you need person-to-person information from a knowledgeable clerk about any book, author, series, or article, this is your store.

If you need to know how to use the books and guides and maps in your classroom or with you child, this is your store.

If you need cards or dice for a classroom center, or grammar or math posters, or academic games and activities of all shapes, kinds, and sizes, this is your store.

We have many great bookstores in the Denver metro area, and two in particular serve teachers and parents well. These are, of course, the Tattered Cover and The Bookies. I love the Tattered Cover, and greatly admire the TC's dynamic outreach to schools and teachers, but The Bookies has the Tattered Cover beat in some important ways.

Primarily, the selection at The Bookies is more deep and more rich, and, well, more MORE. They have almost everything for everyone, from beginning books for infants to the best high school fiction or nonfiction, not to mention books for parents, and for adults in general, and especially for teachers. There are so, so many books for teachers. Public school teachers, private school teachers, tutors, home school teachers - I've seen them all at The Bookies, because they know they will find what they want there.

The Bookies has many more books than the children's department at the TC, and - just as importantly - the store also has more staffers to help customers. I usually encounter one or two staff at most at the TC, but The Bookies always has half a dozen staff on duty, and sometimes more. Almost all the staffers are former or current teachers, too. They are incredibly erudite and very well-informed, and they love to help.

There's one more way in which The Bookies has the edge on its larger competitor: they have better toys, tools, gizmos, and gadgets. Whether you are looking for party favors or classroom prizes, The Bookies is the place for finding the coolest odds and ends.

I shop at both stores. I can become a little worried about The Bookies, though. It's not easy to find for some people. The store is housed in a small, undistinguished strip mall with a miscellany of other businesses. But don't be fooled. Inside, is a wonderland.
