BEWARE of the St. Vincent De Paul off of State street, in Boise- the beyond unhelpful employees (two older women in question) may just snatch up your item and quadruple the price in front of you!!
While at the checkout with other items today, I asked the cashier to see one of the purses that was on a rack behind the counter. It had a tag that was priced at 17.99. The lady went to hand me the bag, took it off the rack and immediately another employee walked up and they both looked at the price tag. I could hear them clearly saying “it’s been like this for a long time” the second woman then took the bag and dismissively told me the price needed to be changed to 175.00! As she hurried away I looked at her in disbelief and she quickly added that she would give it to me for 50. I said no, and left. If you’re the employee in question, you know what you did. This is completely wrong- I should have been given the price that was quoted to have already been on the tag “for a long time” whether or not they thought it should be different.( By the way, I looked up the bag on eBay and found nothing close to 175!
120 was the absolute closest, while the bag in the store was dirty and missing a strap!) It is obvious that these two women thought they were doing St Vincent De Paul a favor, and I sincerely hope this absolutely disgusting, greedy, beat-re-sellers-to-the- punch (I’m not even a reseller!) business model is not in their values as a company, but I have my doubts. Say all you want about supposedly helping give back to the community, taking items you got for FREE and raising them astronomically is wrong and you know it. Stay away from this store, as I will be doing in the future. 0 stars.

We were in the process of an international move and needed help re-purposing some of our larger household items.

St. Vincent de Paul is located just down the street from our (former) home, so we called them. Not only were they able to help us with our items (some of which only SVDP was able to take), but by working with them we knew that our donations were being put to good use in the local community.

The process was seamless and the team was courteous and professional from start to finish. I highly recommend working with SVDP if you are planning a move, relocation or simply have some items to donate that could benefit others!

Great group of individuals! They helped unload my vehical. One of the men there was wearing an Alaskan jacket and we got to talking about our home state, and he showed us a picture ofishm and his fishing experiences there. Really felt like a personal experience, went to donate old things, left with a new friendship.

St. Vincent’s used to be my go to for thrifting, not only because they have a great selection, but because they were one of the only thrift stores left that kept things affordable. Unfortunately, times are changing. The other day I went to buy some dresses and I noticed they still had a tag from Idaho Youth Ranch on them. IYR tends to be a more expensive thrift store and it was still two dollars cheaper than what St Vincents was selling it for! I’ve noticed over the last six months they have risen their prices at least 30% on most items. I know that thrifting has become very popular but there are still a lot of people that need to buy things at an affordable price and unfortunately St Vincents is following along with the rest of the thrift stores and making it harder and harder for people to afford to shop at them. Disappointing.

Update: prices are even higher. Please look at the photo of a pair of pants with a tag from the store for $25 and St V is selling it for $35! As well as a 2T old navy dress for $9. I can buy two of those at old navy for $9. So frustrating to see this store become more and more out of reach for people.

Dollar store items priced at $1.99– mason jars priced at $2 as well. Dime a dozen vases priced at $2.99 and $3.99. Every thrift store is forgetting that thrifting is a choice, and it definitely won’t be my choice if I can find it for less somewhere else. It’s honestly shameful to price donations like this when moving through inventory more quickly will help the bottom line faster. Especially since this location used to have larger spaces in the back to walk through that I now assume must be for holding donations until there is room on the floor.

if you're in the market to pick up some cheap nice furniture or to add some extra books to your collection that you're missing, this is the place. Way better than Idaho youth ranch, deseret industries, or the salvation army.

A great place to find whatever you’re looking for - St. Vincent de Paul has HUGE selection of just about everything for a great price.

Better than Goodwill, Idaho Youth Ranch, and much better than Deseret Industries, which tends to be overpriced.

Not only will you find good buys, but if you’re looking to donate gently used household items, consider how much good St. Vincent de Paul does in our local community:
- Food Banks / Pantries (5 locations)
- Preventing our neighbors from becoming homeless
- Helpline to assist folks with utilities, rent, household goods, transportation & clothing

My wife and I love to shop and donate at our State Street location, and have for years. *Shoutout to Lori for helping us today. 😉

Be a part of doing the MOST good, be a HERO, and SHOP St. Vincent de Paul today!
