I completed the Spudman Triathlon 7/29/2023.

This was a great race. Although they started my swimming a minute early—I didn’t have any complaints. It was organized and smooth.
If I were to give any advice… instead of giving your bag with transition clothing to the crew running the race and getting it at the end—if you have family following you just give it to them. This will limit time tracking down your stuff at the end. I did not feel the current as much as they talk about it doing so.

This was my first one ever and it won’t be my last. 💪🏼

This is a popular race, for good reason. It has been a super fun one! BUT they have switched to the lottery system which is a bummer. My group has been racing this for years, and because they’re such consistent racers, our Airbnb host has given us priority meaning we always get the best place to stay when we do Spud. The group didn’t get into the race this year which also means we lose the Airbnb slot for ALL future years, too. This is such a mess and such a bummer. Of all 30 people i personally know that registered, only 1 got accepted to race. The odds of getting in are not just a little lower, it’s a LOT lower. In my experience. We miss the days of first prepared, first in to the race. The lottery idea sucks.

What a well run race! This was my first time at the Spudman and I was blown away by the community support and the fun atmosphere. There were tons of volunteers working to make this run as smoothly as it did. This is exactly what a triathlon should be!

Overall this is a good race. It is well organized and run smoothly. However, I have been very disappointed in how they treat their participants. If you find yourself in a severe car accident, with cancer, or your partner dies, they really couldn't care less. They keep your money and tell you to F-off as they have a policy against all changes.
I get it, allowing people to cancel, transfer, or transfer their registration for any old reason is not feasible. However, I do believe that there are circumstances, albeit rare, that should be given consideration. A canned response of denial to a real life situation comes across as impersonal and tone deaf. Again, this is all very disappointing as I would expect a little compassion and support for those who has supported them over the years.

Great event. Loved seeing how all the local students pitch in to make this event smooth and well supported. The venue was lovely. The people and community are sooo warm and inviting and supportive. I got a flat on the ride and someone came by with a pump to lend me. T-shirt is cool. Maybe a little smaller than I thought. Metals are nice- but I think they are a silly thing to pay for collectively. I’d rather have socks or something I could use.
