ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL SHOPPING EXPERIENCE FOR THIS WOMAN.
I explained to George what books I was looking for, he showed me where those types of books are kept as well as took the time to give me personal reviews of many of the books. I ended up with exactly, even better than expected, selections. I will be back.
(George was on the phone when I walked in but I didn't listen as it wasn't any of my business. I left happy and not offended. Go figure...)

George it was great talking with you. I love walking in and seeing thousands of books. By far the best book store I've stepped in to. All the books I could ever want.

Guy was talking crap to the group before me as they were leaving, even after one of them had tried something on that didn't end up fitting. He said something along the lines of, "why buy something good when you can spend money on Starbucks."
I was looking around at the other stuff he had on display, since I prefer audio books. He asked if I'd been in before, I told him no. He asked how long I've lived here, I told him I was born here. He bitterly said something about me not stopping in before, and I said we came for a quick field trip once. I told him text on paper wasn't my thing, to which he mockingly replied that it can be challenging for the average person. So I was done at that point, so I started waking away as he went on a rant about computers.
If you don't buy something, expect him to be talking crap as you go to leave.
Overall, unpleasant guy, and experience.

Long time owner, George, has created a bookstore to get lost in, with friendly, knowledgeable staff, to help you find your way out. And by adding beautiful and unique, hand picked merchandise, the store has a nostalgic/antique blend anyone can relate with for gift giving or that perfect book. A hidden jewel in downtown Durango, one block from the train station.

We live an hour away so when we go to Durangoā€¦ we have fun! Like a mini vacation. I was with my gorgeous 7 year old and my precious infant in my carrier and went for the first time to this place just looking for treasures. I saw a mirror outside and asked a man that was sorting books in the front yard:
Excuse me sir, how much is this mirror?
He said: $65
I said: thank you (very kindly)

He continued:
ā€œThey have then at Walmart for $ 19 if you want something cheap. They make them just the same.ā€
What made him think I wanted cheap?
The fact that I am a woman?
The fact that I have children?
Or even worse, my race?

Poor old, angry old man. Inside thee place is a hoarderā€™s house without room to walk. Feel sorry for him. Bad energy, old, bad energy.

Cool out of the normal mainstream bookstore. Relaxed vibe. Prepare to spend some time browsing. The book you want is probably at the bottom of the pile.

George had an amazing collection of used and unique books for incredibly reasonable priceā€™s. Additionally, some great music collections as well as a wide array of pieces - instruments, jewelry, etc - to name a few. A great local find that we plan to visit again when we are in town.

I had the best time eavesdropping on Georgeā€™s conversations with his customers. Itā€™s a great old bookstore and your host is a combination of Ringmaster, professor, and tour guide. The selection of books is fabulous. George helped me navigate the stacks and diligently tried to find a particular title for me. If you like used booksā€¦if you like the unusualā€¦if you like to take some time to enter into interesting conversationā€¦this place is for you!
