Rae Brothers Sporting Goods has been owned and operated by Mark & Patti for several years now. They stock high quality equipment and useful, stylish clothing amongst many other items. Customer service is very good and they go out of their way to help out customers get special orders or find items when they are unsure of what they need. Their prices are very comparable to any other sporting goods store anywhere in Idaho. They are my go-to store when I need hunting, fishing and outdoors gear.

I don't mind going to RB, I often try to get most of my business there if needed. Went in & bought my SP the other day. The lady in there with long hair and very thin was rude as heck. I held my tongue...not something I often do...maybe a bad day... I get it. BUT, I just dropped over $300 before I left. You probably ought to be a lil nicer. Just saying. I'll try again I'm sure, and I'm sure hoping she's having a better day.

Update: since the owner thinks it's ok to come up with all these accusations about me I think it's a good idea to make an update as well. Saying that we were in the store acting sketchy and she had to use my service dog as an excuse to get us to leave is absolutely not true. We walked inside and turned the corner down an isle when she first spoke to us and asked us to take the dog outside... How could she "have no other choice but to use the dog as an excuse to get you guys to leave because you were wearing heavy clothing and could be stealing." Within seconds of being in the store? Heavy clothing? I was wearing a dress, bf wearing a shirt and friend wearing a jacket. To say we should take into consideration how employees feel about us coming into their store, when we did absolutely nothing wrong is crazy. We were checking out the store for the first time despite being warned against even going there. As for my dog knocking over a box. He wears a vest with side pouches that stick out to hold my medication and medical info. There was a small empty box at his level on the lowest shelf, that the pouch knocked into as he passed by. Totally out of his control and to say he knocked some boxes over makes it seem as if he was out of control barreling through the shop Saying she was worried because we were huddled together doesn't make any sense considering it's a super crammed store with small isles and we were in a group? Are we supposed to disperse randomly when we walk in? Oh and we were standing in the corner together? Maybe you know, we were looking at items together as a group does when they come into your store to buy things? Also to bring up the "customer that was there to witness everything." I was kind enough to not bring up the fact that after I explained my service dog had to be there to accompany me in the store that she started mumbling and talking to the customer about us. We just awkwardly walked around to look in the store after this because we just felt uncomfortable and that we weren't wanted in the store. Then left.To bring up the two people I was with, when they didn't even talk to the lady and trying to pin the blame on us existing in your business is absolutely disgusting. Do better as a business.

They don't allow dogs. Which is totally fine as most businesses don't, but when your dog is a legit task trained service dog for your disabilities they will still tell you it doesn't matter and that "the last dog pooped in here." I explained that my dog is potty trained, and that we just came from a restaurant where we had no access issues. Once again the lady behind the counter told me that he'd have to go outside and I let her know he has to accompany me and that it's against the ADA federal law and Idaho state laws. Didn't continue to shop afterwards even though she dropped the subject but I think this business can educate themselves on their own rights as a business so they don't continue to have issues with "service dogs" or pets having accidents on the floor. Under ADA law they are legally allowed to ask 2 questions to service dog handlers. Is that a service dog? And what tasks is it trained to perform?
These questions can help prevent fakes, as most people faking a service dog will answer the first question but be unable to answer the second question. If they claim emotional support, then they are not legit service animals, as emotional support animals do not have public access rights and are not allowed in public places service dogs are granted access to. They also can observe the behavior of the dog and if it's barking, having accidents, or are not clean they can legally ask to have the dog removed from the store. You have rights as a business as well, but can not create a "no pet policy including service dogs" due to the last dog having an accident, as store policy does not trump federal or Idaho state laws. Please do better and educate your employees. The next person may not like to be asked to leave twice after being kind enough to explain how they have rights to be there.

The owner of this establishment can't accept responsibility for their workers actions. The blonde employee with the crooked teeth tried kicking my gf out within a few seconds of being in the store. Stating "someone else's dog pooped on the floor. She'd rather not have dogs in here at the time." To which she just responded with federal law, regarding service dogs. We then looked around the store and left.

The owner then gaslighted her on here, stating it was because 'we were huddling around in heavy clothing, acting sketchy" Even though, she literally told us directly after we walked in that the dog can't be there. So, that's not even plausible. It's just their method of deflecting the fact that they tried kicking out a service dog.
Not to mention. Heavy clothing? She was wearing a dress. I was wearing shorts and a t shirt. Our friend was wearing a jacket. You know, the ones people wear when it is cold outside.
Here's an explanation as to why we just walked around after that, then left. The lady already made us feel uncomfortable, first of all.
Secondly, everything in the store is completely over priced. It's not worth a dime to buy stuff, you can literally tell will fall apart after a few sort uses.
We never checked out the store before. Decided to check it out for once.
Had a bad experience with Ms.Crooked tooth.
Saw that the items weren't worth a damn anyway.
Said to myself on the way out "man, NO WONDER this place is going out of business and no ones ever here."

To address the dog knocking stuff over; he wears a vest with a pouch on its side. It sticks out. It brushed up against a tiny, small, empty box. It moved like two inches.

Hopefully this building becomes another chicken place or something.

The woman offered the most efficient assistance in completing my handgun purchase. She was very professional and took my wishlist for future firearms sales. She earned my future business. Their prices were slightly better than a big store in Lewiston. I love mom and pop shops.

Stopped on the way to the Idaho BDR for a couple of supplies. Store well stocked with backcountry items and also high quality gear for women which I find rare in most small towns. Owners were there and very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend! Best shop for miles near Grangeville.
