I visited the special collection department at the Pikes Peak (Penrose) Library to look up information on my family in the city directories from the early to mid 1900s. The collection is housed in a building that was originally a Carnegie library. It is architecturally beautiful and well cared for.

Made a point of visiting while on a business trip at the Antlers hotel next door. The library staff were pleasant without being intrusive; the space was bright and well-organized. And, excitingly for an out-of-towner, there is a little bookshop wall where I could pay $2 for a book, which brightened my trip immensely!

Had to drive into town early, so I tried to take a nap before reading my book with my sister. Staff guy knocked on our table to wake me up and prohibited me for "safety" reasons. The place obviously over-polices unhoused patrons and therefore over-polices all visitors.

This library serves a large unhoused community. While that may be unpleasant for some to see, it’s still a well-run library.
The kids area is great - though I do understand concerns about bringing small kids around. We’ve never had an issue in the kids area itself, but we’ve encountered folks going through mental health crises in the main area (though I never felt unsafe - just a little uncomfortable). I’m glad this library exists for everyone who needs it.

Only jerks complain about the homeless. Wonderfully run despite the painfully tight budget begrudgingly provided by the bare minimum taxes. This location does more for the community than the churches around it.

Not a place for the family, homeless man screaming at cars right outside,smells awful, a woman was washing her genitalia in the bathroom, security walk around but really doesn’t say much to the patrons that are causing a ruckus. I was only there 15 minutes!

Staff seem bothered by questions. Go if your printer runs out of ink for a quick print job, or if you know exactly where to get your book.

This is a good library. Many items to choose from. Movies, books, tape's, magazine. Many computers to choose from. Copy's, fax machine, download from your phone. Rebate forms. The ladies and gentlemen that work there are efficient and always smiling.😃 The library had to close for a bit. There was a high concentration of Meth. Everyone keeps making it hard for a normal person. Not sure if I would take my kids there. Hopefully it will get better. My kids were young, we went to the library once a week. Story time, the kids enjoy that.
