Last night we attended the Operatini "Gentle" men performance at the Sapphire Room. I am delighted that these gentlemen got an opportunity to perform.
However, I am wondering how this was intended to encourage an interest in opera and also how it would enhance and encourage the growth and membership of Opera Idaho. Fernando was great, as it was intended as a spoof on opera, but the rest, well was lacking, even if it was just a "Broadway" review.
Also, I heard several people comment about the "all to casual" approach to the commentary between songs. Perhaps a little more professional organize approach would be nice. Oh, and also the "interoffice" humor my have been funny to you all, be it was totally lost on us.
There is a great need in the Boise valley for opera. It is an art form that is beautiful and inspiring! Please be focused and dedicated to this great endeavor. Please focus your efforts to the presentation of great opera vocals and performances. Opera Idaho has a long tradition of providing this and I am sure that is will continue.

Morrison center: Romeo and Juliet Opera by Opera Idaho on Feb.23, 2024.

Romeo and Juliet was advertised as a French opera, which you would imagine to showcase the incredible story and setting about young and beautiful love, but this show was the complete opposite! We were in shock to find out from the very beginning of the show that it was a darkly contemporary or bizarre modern twist of the timeless Shakespeare classic, replete with a blow-up pornographic doll on the stage and satanic elements (animal head) in dancing scenes, and odd choices for clothing, hair styles, etc. If Idaho Opera wants to please a contemporary modern art crowd, that's OK, but performances should be honestly advertised! This was a very, very disappointing experience! We left the show after 30 minutes, along with a number of other people. Big disappointment!!
