A great place for serious collectors, at any budget! Not your average "crystal" shop selling amathyst and dyed agates. Walter sells specimines that you can't get anymore. How? Well he buys old stock collections that contain specimines collected decades ago, many from mines that are now closed or run dry! Ask and he'll reccomend pieces that are truly collectable. He knows minerals like the back of his hand; in most cases he can simply look at a piece and tell you exactly what it is and where came from. We worked out a deal where I payed him to go through some of my collection and research what all I had; and most pieces he had no problem identifying for me. Well worth it! Everything I set foot in his shop I have left with something; how could I not?! He has too many rocks, his shop is bursting at the seams. Please, if you're into this hobby go pay this place a visit; you will not be disappointed!

Walter’s store is fantastic. My daughters and I showed up just before he closed and Walter was so informative and kind. He just got a major shipment that he was cataloging and took time to help us. My daughters found what they wanted and he snuck in a stone we had no idea he gave to us until we got back home. We live out of state and this was a great surprise. If you are looking for museum quality pieces and want his geology expertise then you hit the jack pot! Next time we are back in Orange we are going to visit his shop again. Thank you Walter!

Excellent selection of minerals with low prices, something for everyone!

Edit (10/15/2022): Just came back today, much more knowledge about geology and locations! Walt has a surplus of information about minerals and has a vast library of books on locations. I told him I have been havaing trouble finding places to rockhound in california and he came up with 5+ books with a multitude of really good information on where places and deposits are! Minerals are no short either, hundreads of mineral specimens out for display and many more to be catalogued, you can be browsing for hours. This is such a great shop, keep up the great work Walter!

I was in Irvine on business and while in the area I checked out all the rock shops LA and surrounding areas have to offer. This shop is by far the best the area has to offer. Incredible shop with a very friendly and knowledgeable owner. Picked up some fantastic specimens at very reasonable prices Saturday then I went back and picked up more on Monday! Absolutely cannot recommend enough! Definitely worth checking out!

I have usually had great experiences at this shop, but my last experience was horrible.

My fiancee and I recently went into the shop to get a custom ring done with some gold we brought in from her grandmother's ring. We left the ring with Christy after we had designed the custom ring and left with an agreement that she would hold on to the ring and give us an estimate during the week (we went in on a Saturday).

I called her later in the week to check about the estimate. When she answered, she had no idea what she was supposed to be doing for us and misplaced the gold from my fiancee's grandmother. She called a couple of her jewelers who she claimed she had probably left the gold with. Then, she called me back and claimed that her jewelers were not in possession of the gold and that we never left the gold with her. After we exclaimed that we most definitely left the gold with her, she said she would look again and call us back. She ended up calling us back and said that her jeweler had found it (she originally told us that she is the one that makes the ring, not a separate jeweler). We were relieved they had found it and she said she would get back to us the following week with an estimate for the work.

I followed up again with her and she stated that her jeweler still did not have an estimate for the ring we wanted made. She kept on pushing the date back with the estimate she promised and stated that her jeweler was very busy. I requested the jeweler's phone number to communicate directly with them and to potentially just pick up our ring and look for business elsewhere, but Christy refused to give the number and said they wouldn't talk to someone they don't recognize. Although she originally said the jeweler was out of town and was in possession of the ring, she called us back after a short while and said she had our gold and rudely asked us to pick it up immediately.

We believe she temporarily misplaced the gold we left with her and never gave it to her jeweler.

Again, the shop has great gems and we've had good business in the past; however, I would never go to this location for any custom work again. It was very stressful for my fiancee and I. Luckily, we were able to get our gold back and are now working with another shop.
