Beautiful campground!! Sites are close together, but the campground was quiet and perfect! Felt very safe. Older kids could walk into town from the campsite. The Park also has very nice paved trails, beautiful views, a fun creek, a playground, area to sit, a gas fireplace to hang around.

There was an older gentleman on a golf cart who works for the town of Lyons who stopped and chatted with us. He showed us where the Golden Eagles nest is. We loved that he took the time to chat with us and our children.

We did not use the bathrooms to shower as they charged extra and we have six in our family.
Very clean bathrooms though.
Definitely recommend!

It's a great park, but Lyons is getting too greedy. First they increased the cost to park to $3, but there's never parking because of all the reserved spots. No convenient way to drop off a double stroller or adult with walking difficulties. Then this summer they require $25 picnic table or camping reservations to enter on the weekends...and won't even let you walk over if you wanted to park far away to enjoy. Now they won't even let someone sit at the shelter picnic tables and eat a snack? Jesus. They should add more parking and make it a free amenity, which gets people to Lyons, who will then spend money in town, which helps the city. The fact this park has become basically non-usable for our family makes us choose to rather spend our time (and money) in places like Niwot or Boulder when we are trying to have a nice family day with the kids (we live in Longmont). Stop being greedy, and make your parking family and disability accessible (not just for people who have a disabled placard).

Gorgeous setting! A little odd that it is primarily set up for recreation like soccer and playgrounds… I don’t want to say it takes away from the environment but it kinda does… stunninf backdrop for a picnic or play with the kids though and a ton of cool playground equipment

This campground was a wonderful location to use as a base for our visits to Rocky Mountain National Park and Boulder, CO.

There are restaurants, and a small market, within walking distance of the campground.

Site 5, Back-in, FHU, 50/30/20, water, sewer. Gravel, not level. Close, angled parallel, but enough room for the slides and the awning.

There is a nice little stream behind the campers on the other side of the lane. You can swim or fish in it.

The park is lovely, with one of the nicest playgrounds I've ever seen at a campground.

Site was long enough for the motorhome and the car parked in front of the coach sideways.

In addition to RV sites, there are also very nice tent sites available.

We felt it was a little pricey given the site and the lack of amenities, but, I guess there is a premium because of the location.

The campground is a cooperative project among the Colorado Division of Parks, the National Park Service, and the Town of Lyons. Reservations must be made through recreation.gov, but recreation.gov cannot modify or cancel once the reservation is made. They say you need to contact the campground directly, but, if you call the number of the campground website, it just directs you to recreation.gov.

This was a WONDERFUL park for the entire family. You do have to pay to park and i think the machine only takes credit cards. The park has a fast river running around it and you could rent tubes from the concession stand. There were pavilions with plenty of really nice picnic tables. There was a big outdoor fireplace. There were lots of swings, slides, a climbing wall, a zip line, rope climbing nets, a safe little walkway through river water, a bathroom with flush toilets, mountain views, rushing water, soccer fields and more. The park was well laid out and designed and the materials used to build everything were fun, safe and durable. WOW! Well done!😉

This is the first time I have been here. My wife and I decided to get out of the house and check out the fall colors and I am so glad we decided to come here. The park is very clean and well maintained. Lots of picnic tables here in well placed areas all over the park. Bring the kiddos as there is tons of stuff for them to run around and play on including a little zipline. Several spots with babbling water to sit by. You can also camp and fish here as well (catch and release only). At this time, parking costs 3 dollars per hour. If you are looking to get out of the house to relieve your stress of the week, I highly recommend LaVern M. Johnson Park. I will absolutely be coming back!

Kids love the tubing here. We camp overnight at least once a year. It's a relaxing sleep with the sound of the river. One year we had a downpour and some sites had a couple of inches of water for an hour, but that was only once in 7 years. It's not as private here, but almost everyone I've met has been nice, new friends type thing, and it is quiet during quiet hours. Photo is this spring when water was too high to tube.

I love this place! Any chance I get to drive over and spend some time here, I do so. Awesome place for the whole family. I haven't camped here yet, hopefully soon. It's a great place to come for a little time in nature. The place is open year round and camping has electricity. Definitely reserve ahead for camping and day use sites. They have bathrooms and showers for camping. Overall a great place.
