Disgusting hotel, beds all have hair on them ( clearly sheets were not washed) . Hot water was unreliable ( only had hot water at random times) when asked about the hot water they said when the dishwashers are running there is no hot water. No body soap in shower. Cannot reach them on the phone in the room, they disconnected it.
Overall my husband and I did not sleep and was a very unpleasant place to stay. Highly recommend to stay away. Even with the amazing location on the rim would have preferred to stay somewhere else.

Giving 4 stars for the room bc it did have a musty smell when we first walked in but having the windows open for a few hours, it was way better.
I just recommended the hotel to my sister. Staying right on the rim was amazing! The entire canyon-facing wall in our room were windows that had a perfect view of the GC. Loved it. And the people were so friendly, the shuttle service was great. I’d def stay inside the village every time. So worth it!
Edit to add — definitely stay on the 2nd floor if possible. You’re so close to the canyon that if you’re on the first floor, you’re nose to nose with lots of people. You’d have to close the blinds a lot. Enjoy!!

You definitely have to stay here if you can afford it and want some super great views of the South Rim from a room.

Let me be clear- You are not paying for the room itself- you are paying for the view. At over $400 a night you get a really basic room but it’ll get you by for a night or two. Bathrooms were clean, showers had water and soap/ shampoo- beds don’t have bugs. The air in my room wasn’t working well, even after they tried to fix it, but thankfully the night I stayed was abnormally cool for June so opening the window for fresh air worked for me.

Even with this hotel being very outdated for the price point, I still highly recommend staying at the Kachina Lodge.

The room had a musty smell. We cracked the window and that seemed to fix that.
The fridge did not work, it actually seemed to heat up some of our drinks and felt hot from the outside. The parking sucked. Not the standard that we're used to for those prices.
Waking up to the view made it all worth it though. Attached is a picture of the view from our room window.
Also, the rock wall was great with kids. I'm sure no one heard our obnoxiously loud children.

If you are sensitive to mold and musty smells don't choose this hotel. It's gross, the carpet is old and it smelled when I turned on the air. Please consider getting rid of the nasty smelly carpet and musty headboards.

Also the shower head is set low and is difficult for even average-height people. I had to bend my knees while washing and rinsing my hair.

We opened the windows. That is nice that they had windows to open as the fresh air really helps if you stay in a hotel for more than one night.

There no trolleys for luggage. We were traveling to other places afterwards so we had more than the average amount of luggage.

The air-conditioning barely worked in our room so turn it on early for it to cool down by evening time. They did send someone right away (twice) to check out the air, and that was impressive that the maintenance came so quickly.

There is an small elevator and it works so they get a star for that. The views are amazing. The staff are friendly and helpful, even at the restaurants. There is a handicapped spot out front and you just need to parallel park there.

The park itself is amazing and get ready to see breath-taking views and wildlife all around.

So here is the thing. The Grand Canyon lodging choices are all terrible. While the location is stellar, the rooms haven’t been updated in 20 years I am guessing. There is limited supply and a ton of demand so they can charge higher end prices for motel 6 rooms. It’s actually a pretty gross way to operate a business. The park and the operator of the hotels here should be ashamed.

Remember, you are paying for the location. Our room was clean and comfortable, no frills. But, in my opinion, the price was totally worth it. We loved that we could just walk out a few steps and be on the South Rim Trail. If I come to the Grand Canyon again, I will definitely stay in the park. We did pay to have a partial canyon view. But, after having one, I don't know if I would do it again. The view was minimal and there is not alot of privacy. When your drapes are open, you can see outside and everyone can see you! Feel free to wave at people on the trail and they will wave back to you ?

View from the room was beautiful, but that was the only good thing about our stay at the lodge. It was expensive (as expected) but not handicap accessible at all. There was a single tiny outdated elevator that went to the floors, but there were stairs to get to the actual rooms, on all floors. Even the El Tovar hotel did not have an elevator at all. Service at the kachina lodge was also poor, it’s a very old building, creaking floors, the works, but for $400 a night, you would think the amenities would be better. There was wifi available, but only 2 devices could be connected at a time. Which with a family of 5, was aggravating.
There was also dried blood from a previous lodge goer on our pillow case in our room.
Parking was also awful, again it is a busy place, being the Grand Canyon but there also wasn’t nearly enough handicap parking available. And if there was any available, it was taken up people who didn’t even have plates because there was no where else to park.
Again, overall, lovely view, but I would not go through that hassle of having to lift my handicapped child (and her wheelchair) over and over again, just to get to our room.
