We have stayed at this hotel several times. The rooms are always clean.
They are starting renovations at this hotel which is definitely needed. New towels would be a plus. The bed definitely needs replaced.
The last two times we have stayed here we have had to wait for breakfast items to be refilled, this time especially there were several people waiting (probably 15 - 20 minutes) when the food was refilled it was very good.
Because of the cleanliness of the rooms, I would definitely stay here in hopes the beds and towels will be upgraded.

First the good bit.
+ The location of this property is great. It's on main road and walkable distance from most establishments.
+ The breakfast provided in the great room was surprisingly satisfactory.
+ The Wi-Fi speed was adequate as well.
Now what could have been better -
- The property is absolutely dated; so much so that we couldn't believe this is Holiday Inn Express. We have stayed at their Moab, UT property as well as a few in other states and all of them have been great. Not this one though.
- The parking lot was poorly lit and so was the whole property for that matter. The glass exterior (e.g. Elevator has a glass back) wasn't clean, leading to believe that this needs regular maintenance which wasn't done. We were greeted by the signs that the pool isn't working. Based on other reviews (which we saw after we stayed), the pool has been out of order for a while.
- The laundry facility is below restaurant and had half of the washers and dryers out of order. So was the dispensing machine.
- The room was ok but the bathroom tub has many scratches and chipped paint. The shower was very finicky to adjust but water temperature was good. Biggest problem with the bathroom though was that the tub wouldn't drain quickly, thereby creating a large puddle while taking shower.
- The beds were very hard leading to poor sleep quality.
- The property generally looks extremely dated.
- All this could have been compensated to some extent by smiley faces of personnel. Sadly, that wasn't the case either. The front desk person was too new to even provide accurate directions to laundry room. To be fair, he was willing to provide another room when we complained about the bed quality but we didn't see any point in it judging by the overall appearance of the property.
With regular maintenance and friendly, smiley faces, this property may be able to redeem itself.

It is a stylish hotel! The front desk staff are super nice and helpful. The room is kind of small but cozy and comfortable.
Sound insulation seems to be good, we travel with little baby who sleeps early, and we’re not bothered by the others; we actually didn’t hear much going on at all when we were in the room. Beds are comfortable and clean.
Water pressure is great for a shower.

Super good motel in Cortez, with many good qualities usually found only in more upscale and expensive lodging options. ||Older property, but with many pleasant amenities, including indoor pool and hot tub type spa bath. Comfortable beds. Pleasant continental breakfast, including eggs, bacon etc., included in your stay. ||Friendly and professional staff, night and day. And.. Plenty of varied dining choices in Cortez, from McD’s and Popeyes etc., up to the excellent Farm Bistro or Lizard Lounge in downtown Cortez just up the road. In nearby Dolores, just 10 miles north on the San Juan Skyway (SR 145), excellent new steakhouse called SteakOut, for lunch or dinner. ||This Holiday Inn Express is highly recommended.

I generally enjoy IHG hotels. What I loved about this one was that the place is themed beautifully since it’s so close to Mesa Verde & unique in that. I’ll also offer the disclaimer here that we arrived late in the evening. The front desk staff helped us check in quickly which was nice after being on the road for many hours. Unfortunately the room we received seemed to be in various states of disrepair. The lamp was askew because it was broken, the curtain rod to shut them was broken off & the toilet was broken - no water was coming in & we couldn’t flush nor could we turn the water knob to get it back on. We appreciated the front desk attendant giving us a quick solution in that he was able to open the adjoining room & offered for us to use that restroom. When we tried to leave, the elevator seemed to be stuck so we had to take the stairs. So it wasn’t an all around bad experience, but it wasn’t the best, or consistent with my usual IHG experiences.

Place has a nice theme and decor, but kind of falls short after that. Parking lot is very dark. Breakfast was okay, pool and hot tub were out of order. Room was a wreck. No working USB's, big hole in curtain, broken art stored in nook in room, TP holder falling off wall, clock radio and power by bed didn't work. Told room was under renovation and shouldn't have been issued. If that is the case, it explaines a lot. So be careful. Not anywhere near the normal Holiday Inn Express experience. Hopefully this was just a big mistake.

I was shocked at the state of this property so much so that I seriously doubt if this meets IHG standards at all.
The property was poorly lit and looks extremely dated, almost as if it hasn't been maintained! The reception was trying to be helpful but was quite new to the job.
The elevator that took us to our room had transparent glass wall that wasn't clean. Once in the room, we noticed that the beds appeared very small. They weren't comfortable at all but we managed to sleep overnight. The tub had several scratches and hence didn't appear clean. Shower was finicky.
We used the laundry but half the dryers were out of order. So was the dispensing machine. So were the pool and hot tub!
Finally, parking lot. It was in very bad shape, uneven with cracks.
The breakfast served in the great room redeemed this hotel somewhat. Everything else felt as if corners were cut everywhere.

The location of this place is fantastic, offering convenient access to nearby attractions and amenities. However, there were a couple of frustrating issues during our stay. The swimming pool was under maintenance, which was a big letdown since we had planned to spend some time relaxing there. To make matters worse, the housekeeper knocked on our door before 10 a.m., which was extremely annoying and disrupted our morning. It would have been much better if the staff respected a later time for housekeeping. While the stay had its positives, these inconveniences definitely took away from the overall experience.
