My wife and I wish we lived closer to Hermitage. Although they have a wonderful online presence, there’s nothing quite like stepping into their bookshop and admiring their fantastic collection. We walked away with a first edition Asimov at a reasonable price. I highly recommend visiting them if you are ever in Cherry Creek… nay, Denver… nay, Colorado!

One of my top itinerary priorities when traveling is to visit local bookstores, and I'm so thankful I chose Hermitage on this trip. Hands down one of my favorite bookstores, ever. Beautiful store. A hardcover fan's paradise as hardcovers are nearly all they stock. Tons of collectible editions from first edition to signed copies. Price ranges to suit all shoppers, from plenty of stock priced as you'd find in any used bookstore, to some more expensive and collectible treasures. Every book comes pre-wrapped in protective Brodart mylar, which is such a wonderful touch and shows how much they care about books and their customers. Very nice staff. Oh, and dog friendly, too! This is now a must-stop shop when I'm in Denver. If I ever have the pleasure to own a bookstore, I hope it's just like Hermitage.

The staff are knowledgeable, available, and friendly.

Hermitage Bookshop, located in the basement, is well-lit, clean, and feels inviting and comfortable.

The shop has interesting finds. Prices are affordable.

Hermitage Bookshop was established by Bob Topp in 1973. He had been working in a bookstore, when he decided to buy the bookstore, then called All Books, on 15th Street and renamed the store. Then, in 1980, he moved the bookshop to 290 Fillmore Street.

After some 50 years, Bob has retired from the bookshop owning business.

At the end of May (2022), ownership of Hermitage Bookshop passed to Renee and Ian Colle. I met Sam Butler, who manages day-to-day operations, and Joanne, who does book acquisitions, today.

The dream of this Denver bookshop continues. I look forward to going back.

An amazing bookstore. A colection that is so well curated one could browse for hours with satisfaction. Who knew Hans Christian Andersen wrote a travelogue about Spain and Portugal? The Books on books section is lovely, as are the philosophy and fiction ones. It is clear that each book has been lovingly chosen. My son found a beautiful Rex Stout omnibus, in perfect condition, delightful. Truly a one in a kind place.

This store is an amazing stop for bibliophiles. It's tucked away in a quaint little downstairs area. I stopped by five different book stories while in Colorado, and this was by far my favorite.
There's a first edition section for collectors. But every book in the whole store is in pristine condition.

This place is BRILLIANT! I’m from Seattle and wish I could visit more often. The shop lady was super nice when I asked if they had a few books in stock (books are also listed on their online shop). She helped me find them, and we nerded out on St. Vincent Millay while she wrapped up the books. I felt really lucky to find these tough-to-find copies in good condition.

While looking around the rest of the shop, (I believe) are all hard cover, with protection, and reasonably priced. I will for sure visit again.

This is the anti-used-bookstore used bookstore. There are no teetering piles of dusty paperbacks, no boxes jammed with book club editions, no overflowing bins with used magazines. Instead, everything is clean, and orderly, and organized - more so than in many new book stores, even! All the books, or nearly all, are wrapped snugly in Mylar covers. It's a bit like a little-known library, or a specialized reading room. There are usually not many customers in the store at one time. In fact, during my recent visits, I was the only customer there.

The Hermitage is one of the oldest bookshop in Denver. Perhaps the oldest still in operation? It's an attractive space, below street level in Cherry Creek North, accessible by a staircase in front as well as an elevator only a little to the side. I found many interesting and appealing collector's books on my last visit, all in excellent condition... perhaps a bit pricey, but worth it. This is not, however, just an inflated Cherry Creek venue, for there are other books that are more affordable. The owner, quoted in a recent article, says, "Probably 20 percent of our stock would be collectible, signed first editions, or something else that would make it collectible, like the illustrator, perhaps."

I strongly recommend visiting. The shop lives up to its name. It is indeed a kind of hermitage, a refuge that is removed from the bustle of the neighborhood street nearby, offering a quiet, beautiful experience to all who enter its doors.
