While I was in there, somebody else came in complaining that they overcharged a friend of his right before me. They had charged his friend $12 for a pack of Blackwoods. $12! For one pack!

So then I get my order, make it down the street to sit down and drink my little coconut milk and I look at my phone and I see that I was charged $18. Here’s the deal though I got one bottle of Tampico, one small glass of coconut milk, and two black and milds. $18!?! here’s the thing though, when I paid with Apple Pay, it only said eight dollars. So somehow he snuck an extra $10 on to my bill. Do not shop here unless you like being ripped off! Talking to friends about this…apparently it’s a pattern here.

I had to find out if this place still exists -there is an article ( sfgate ) I read stating De Lauer's had closed ( so has Holmes Books ). SAY IT AINT SO! I love the place, and was a frequent customer when I lived downtown in the 1980's/ 1990's. There is no other store like De Lauder's open 24 hours, never closed. Newspapers, books, magazines of all kinds WOW!

The City owes a debt of gratitude to the folks who have kept this business open and thriving. A measure of any great city can be seen in a) whether its downtown has a newsstand and b) do any of their 24/7 businesses promote a better community.
DeLauers-- 110+ years old-- is a treasure. Long may it thrive!

this place is absolutely awesome they have all kinds of interesting magazines that you can't really find it other stores and also all sorts of really awesome torch lighters and t-shirts and hoodies and snacks and drinks and stuff like that but what I really really love about this place is this guy saw me handling a lot of money because I spent a lot of money at the store because I thought it was so cool and the prices in there were cheap so anyway so this guy saw me handling a lot of money and clearly was waiting for me to come out of the store to rob me or something to that effect and the owner of the store let me sit behind the the counter for a long period of time until the guy left and offered to give me a ride home this is really cool and they will always have my business from this point on.

Lots of random snacks and microwavable food. Plenty of non alcoholic drinks to choose from. Great variety of magazines.

The Ethiopian owner tries to scam people by not accepting card payments and forcing people to use the ATM inside.

It was absurd how he tried to make an excuse saying ATT was down.
