If you or your kids want to learn skiing, Bear Valley is the perfect destination for beginners. Our group, consisting of both adults and kids, took ski lessons, and the experience exceeded all our expectations.

We enrolled several 5-year-olds in two days of lessons and highly recommend Coach Carnegie and Coach Damien. Both instructors were fantastic, especially coach Damien —he's incredibly passionate about skiing, teaches humorously, and knows how to engage kids. The children thought he was "super cool," which made them think skiing was cool too! After just two days, they were confidently skiing on green runs—a result far beyond what we imagined.

For the adults, Coach Leon was amazing. He got all of us onto the green runs after just one session! His humor and expertise made the learning process so enjoyable.

We couldn't be happier with the lessons and instructors at Bear Valley. The staff at Bear Valley are all incredibly warm and responsible. Emily, in particular, patiently answered all of our questions. Our experience was absolutely perfect! It's the ideal place for anyone, young or old, to start their skiing journey. Strongly recommended!

Always our favorite place to get away for a great skiing trip. Bear is one of the closest ski parks to the valley and bay area. Managment contiues to spend heavily on new chair lifts which has enhanced the experience with a front and back side of the mountain to keep chair lines short. Bear is a little know jewel in Alpine County's high country.

I'll be coming back and recommend.

There are a few different food and drink options - we were happy all day. The lines can get long but the wait isn't so bad. Good luck finding a spot to sit - you know how some people are, they hold groups of tables all day. Me and the kids usually find a bench somewhere close by.

The guys running the lifts were fun and very patient in the beginner area. They made the trip more fun. We did 2 days in the beginner area and rode the lifts 50 times - lines were SHORT! Great place for families.

The rental area is lacking. Staff is rude and careless. I'll look into renting near me for the season next year.

All in all - a fun trip and I'll definitely be back many times.

Awesome and convenient venue. Rental bindings were tricky to get back into, highly recommend more customization there (multiple family members spent 10s of minutes trying to get back into bindings on the side of a hill). Gear rental staff was otherwise excellent. Food service personnel seemed overworked and a bit jaded. Only one bartender so service was pretty slow there as well. Not enough places to chill out, folks not skiing would camp out in any outdoor Adirondack chairs or inside seating, so more lounging areas would be wonderful. Good food and beverage selection and the pricing for rentals was manageable. Lessons booked up solid so definitely get them confirmed ahead of time (only available via the website).

Will go again.

This place is amazing I would recommend. Me and my homie mattly also a weather man love to shred on the mountain. It brings pure joy to my sole up here in the mountains. Taking time of my job as a deputy is also hard but worth it to get up to a place like this just amazing.

Very fun! Of course food and drinks are expensive, but the bunny hill is perfect for first timers, the staff are knowledgeable and kind. I fell getting off the ski lift for the first time and the guy was quick and helpful.

I can’t tell you what a bad experience we had today. The place was insanely crowded. The layout and process of rentals and purchases were totally confusing. When you asked for help on multiple occasions, the staff were rude. My kids went into a class and the class had one instructor and 15 kids, all first time skiers. My son spent much of the two hours just waiting around. All of this is on top of the expense — it was nearly $1000. My wife and I could not even ski because it took so long to get our rentals and the lines were insane. The worst part for me was the rudeness of the staff. I could not find my son during this class and asked someone where the class might be and I was told to just relax. I was not even stressed or concerned — just asking to be sure I knew where to take photos. I honestly just feel sick for all the money we spent.
