One of the worst & deceptive business around. They send college studying kids for donation in the promise of paying their tution. Infact no one knows if these students ever get paid. You want to help someone in need & the student issues you a receipt. Student says someone will call for confirming the donation. Infact this fraud business will call & informs you about subscription. I told them I am not interested & just help the student what they promised. After few days this business sends me the notice asking for subscription due. Hilarious. I havent subscribed in the first place. Someone has to shut down this con business for good.

I wont be helping anymore students who claim to get tution support from this business.

SJ Mercury News held an event at my local grocery store at the beginning of this year providing coupons for the local store if you purchased a T shirt or Hoodie from them to support the local paper. This was a purchase for ONE sweatshirt. At the time of purchase, they stored my credit card information without my consent or any signature from me, and never once mentioned that my card would be charged for anything other than the sweatshirt I purchased.

I have made several attempts to resolve this with SJMN directly, and have been met with nothing but lies and continued fraud.

I have been told that the charges to my card would be reviewed and reversed, the erroneous account closed and my card information removed from their system, but here we are NINE MONTHS later and I am STILL being charged (many months I’ve even been charged twice) against my consent.

SJMN has refused to send me ANY confirmation in writing of the cancellation of the account and clearly has not held their word with regard to removing my information. This is 100% fraudulent and now very clearly an issue of theft.

As the originator of these ACH transactions, It is their responsibility to verify the receiver's authorization of the ACH transaction and keep a copy of the receiver's authorization on file for two years.

I would seriously urge anyone with an account with them to review their statements with a fine tooth comb and better yet, cancel all together.

Crooks.

If only there's a way to post minus 5 stars, I would do that. I canceled the subscription on 1/12/2019 and was told I could not get a refund but had to let it run out. The paper stopped being delivered the next day and since then I've called five times, each time being told a refund of $275.62 would be processed for me. The sixth time, just 10 minutes ago, I was told I could not get a refund and could only get the paper delivered again. I understand they may be on their last breath, but still they could have been honest and I'd be okay with that the first time.

I subscribed to SJMN online for yearly subscription in October 2018. I got the confirmation email with the order details. In April 2019, suddenly the paper deliveries stopped. When I contacted the customer service, I was told that, though, they have taken the money for annual subscription in October 2018, they have applied it for some other balance which I am not aware and never asked for any deliveries. The customer service acknowledged that what they did was without my knowledge and maybe illegal but they did not help me correct the record. I am trying to dispute this through my credit card company and will see what happens. But try to stay clear of SJMN and don't get fooled by their online subscription sign up. They will take your money and not provide you the services.

I subscribed and paid for 3 months. Didn't receive the delivery for the term.
3 months pass and I get a call everyday to resubscribe. They then told me that there were issues with delivery to my zip code and want me to pay for another subscription to prove themselves.
You already have my money and are running behind on deliveries, How about delivering the copies I am already owed?

Similar trick. They send young boy at your door so sell the subscribe. for my first season of sub, ONLY recieved 1paper and thats it. Now they try to charge me another cycle even I triple made sure I am canceling it monthes ago. Also got two guy telling me it will be canceled at the end.
Fast forward, now they send me a notice of new sub fee. Just made a phone call, the person (Amber) there told me she filed it for her superviser for my cancelation. Im pretty sure it was her monthes ago. Bunch lier

Sunday paper subscription that NEVER arrives unless you call, and even then it only comes some of the time. This is NOT the same paper I used to work for in my past life. Those kids on bike delivered more reliably than these kids in cars. And yes, I realize they arent kids but their sense of responsibility isnt even close to the real kids of yesteryear
